We’re Adopted: Blaze of Glory & Remi

Baby Remi, Stephanie and Blaze of Glory

Stephanie and her infamous ferret Snotface were introduced to a couple of boys named Blaze of Glory and Remi.  Like Snotface, these two ferrets are Blazes, a type of ferret with a white stripe that comes from the face and goes down the head and neck.  These three boys will now spent their time making Stephanie’s life even more exciting than ever.  We want to thank Stephanie for adding these two ferret to her home.  We know that Snotface will keep them both in line so that one day, they may be famous superstars like him.

We’re Adopted: Jacqueline & Franz

Sarah, Lilly and Justin with Franz & Jacqueline

Jacqueline & Franz are a couple of fun-loving, easy going ferrets.  They were recently adopted by Justin & Lillian, a father and daughter team anxious to begin life with ferrets.  We want to thank them for taking their time to discern and to go through our crash course of ferret ownership.  Once they decided that ferrets were a good pet for them, we were able to match them up with this great pair of ferrets.  We want to thank them for their generous donation to our Medical Fund and we wish them all the best with Jacqueline & Franz.

Mile High Ferret Club Birthday Party – Membership Drive

Sunday April 15th is the start of our new year and it’s a big day for the club!

Time: 2 – 4 PM

Where: 2465 Sheridan Blvd. – Across from Sloans Lake

“My birthday, my cake. Get your own!”

If you decide NOT to go you will miss:

*Annual ferret birthday party complete with cake, a balloon making professional entertainer on site, ferret birthday presents, new club products, new toys for the playpen & more!

*What else? Oh yeah!
The start of the 2012 membership drive.
OK, you KNEW we were gonna hit you up for money at some point.

2012 membership drive starts Sunday April 15th

A small price for so MUCH stuff!

We have decided to keep the membership cost the same as last year.

The membership year runs from April’s meet up, through the March 2013 meet up.

Membership for the first person in your household is $25.00, with $10.00 for each additional household member over the age of 6.

What does your membership money go to?

Membership fees pay for (human) food & beverages, activities, group games, ferret kibble, paper towels, cleaning supplies, ferret bedding and toys, prizes at the Olympics and costume contest in October, marketing materials, web costs and more!

This past year we stretched every dollar and pinched every penny to bring you the best experience possible and we promise to do it again!

How are we able to do so much without raising the cost of membership this year?

“Turns out ‘Ferret Math’ didn’t work on budgeting last year.”

Well in a word, we can’t.

We had a choice to make this year to make ends meet; raise fees or cut costs.
We decided to cut costs.

We will be unable to give away a sign up gift this time around as the cost to the club for gifts was nearly 40% of the membership fee leaving a deficit on financial obligations for 2011. Thanks to donations we remain in the black going into 2012 but we can’t run that way again.

What you WILL get with membership in addition to being a part of all the great events you enjoyed last year is a 20% discount on all products sold by the Mile High ferret Club, automatic entry into exclusive members only raffles (and you know it will be cool stuff), and good karma for all those times when you really need it!

In Memoriam: Slash

Slash is a permanent resident of Ferret Dreams Rescue & Adoption.

Slash!

Slash is now a permanent resident due to his adrenal disease and enlarged spleen.  He is very active still but requires special handling due to his illnesses.

Update: On April 8th, we helped Slash cross over to another place, free of pain and suffering.  He experienced another major blockage from his bladder due to an enlarged prostate.  The medication and treatments worked for a while but this final blockage was too much for him to handle.  Along with his adrenal disease, Slash dealt with an enlarged spleen, bladder and prostate problems and blindness.  Even on his last day, he enjoyed his ferretone, his treats, especially his whipped cream and his two playmates, Nibbles and Pumpkin.  Slash was approximately 9 years old and spent the last 3 years with us here at Ferret Dreams.  We want to thank all who support our Medical fund and especially his two DreamAngels, Chris and Jamie.  Thank you everyone!

Chris & Jamie are Slash’s DreamAngels!

Chris and Jamie have been great friends to Ferret Dreams. They have adopted many ferrets from us, almost all of them special needs guys. In March, we posted on our Facebook page that Slash is the only permanent resident who did not have a DreamAngel–a monthly sponsor. Within minutes, Chris and Jamie had their hands up. We’re so grateful for their support. Here’s what they said about becoming Slash’s DreamAngel:

Ferret Dreams is such an amazing organization, and when we learned of the DreamAngels program we immediately knew that we wanted to get involved. It’s always been in our nature to help the helpless. Every animal we’ve ever adopted has been one that others found unadoptable.  Those are the ones that make our family complete. We truly believe that God created all living things equal and that they all need to be treated with respect.  Although we aren’t taking Slash home, we are still happy to have him as part of our extended family. We look forward to contributing to the wonderful life he’s living at Ferret Dreams.

April Hero of the Month: Detlef

Detlef  has been a supporter of Ferret Dreams for many years and in our eyes, is one of the most dedicated supporters around.  Detlef is a “Silent Hero” in the sense that he has done so much for our rescue in his own quiet way.  It is because of his humble spirit and dedication that we have chosen him for our Hero of the Month.

Every month, Ferret Dreams Rescue, along with the Mile High Ferret Club get together for a monthly gathering.  If we were to take attendance, Detlef would have perfect attendance.  Rain or Shine, Snow or Rain or a Bronco Game, Detlef is there with his mother Doreith and their 10 ferrets.  Not only is Detlef a dedicated supporter of Ferret Dreams and the Mile High Ferret Club, he arrives early every month to make sure the door is open for us to set up for our events.  He has donated butcher paper for the huge play pen to the Mile High Ferret Club  and is always willing to lend a hand setting up the playpen for all the arriving ferrets.

Another way that Detlef helps us is by collecting newspapers for our rescue.  We go through a lot of newspapers here at Ferret Dreams for all the cages and play areas.  Just like clockwork, Detlef loads up his truck and is ready to transfer them to our vehicle after every monthly event.  If we happen to run low, Detlef is always willing to deliver the papers to our rescue.

One of the most heartwarming gestures from Detlef happened several years ago.  A stray baby ferret was turned in to our rescue and after several weeks of trying to find its owner, we decided to place this little girl up for adoption.   Detlef saw this little girl on our website and immediately knew that he had to have her.   He adopted this cute, baby ferret and took her home to meet her other brothers & sisters.  After about a month, we were contacted by a family who found out that their ferret had been turned into our rescue.  Everything added up and we knew that the baby ferret that Detlef had adopted was their little lost girl.  We explained to the family that we had made every attempt to find her owners and that she had been adopted out.  We explained that by law and our adoption agreement, the little ferret now belonged to someone else.  The family was heartbroken and asked if they could have her back.  I contacted Detlef  who had already began to bond with this little girl and explained this family’s situation.  Detlef knew in his heart that this little ferret belonged back with her family.  He stated to us that if he had lost one of his ferrets and someone found it, that they would see it in their heart to return the ferret to him.  We knew this was a difficult decision for Detlef but he knew it was the right decision.  Detlef truly is a big man with a big heart and we thank him for the love and devotion that he has for these wonderful weasel-friends of ours.

Finally, Detlef loves to participate in our raffles.  He can always be seen walking around with long strands of tickets that he purchased.  But like any raffle, sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.  We recall a raffle event where Detlef was having a lucky day and won 6 raffle items in one day.  Then there are times like our last raffle in April where he didn’t win one single item.  Nevertheless, Detlef walks away happy knowing that win or lose, the money he spent went to our Medical Fund, and that is what really matters.

Thanks Detlef for your years of support and friendship!
